The two Apple TVs in the cycling studio worked. They just did not do the thing I needed them to do.
I sent a help request asking if we could enable AirPlay.
The reason was simple. We needed to test SYSTM workouts on a television where we did not have a native app. AirPlay was also a completely normal way for a customer to use the product. The experience station was there to let people try Wahoo equipment. It should be useful for the software too.
That request landed in the middle of another Atlanta work week.
The weekend before it looked completely different. I rode around the city on Saturday. Sunday was the New York City Marathon. My camera roll is mostly runners moving through Manhattan and Central Park while the crowd leaned into the street to cheer. I was not racing this one. I got to watch.
Then I went to Atlanta.
The Wahoo week included product testing, group rides, and work across several teams. The AirPlay request was the small version of that work. Test the normal setup people had at home, see where it failed, and fix it.
I was back in New York by Friday.
The work followed me home in a way I liked. I wrote to a cycling brand I had been buying for years and explained that people on my club rides in New York and Atlanta kept asking about the kit I wore. I asked whether they had an industry program for more Wahooligans. They did. I forwarded the answer with, “Look at that job perk ;)”
A few days later I went back into Manhattan for a meeting. That used to be ordinary. I had commuted there nearly every workday for ten years. Since COVID, it felt strange to realize how little time I had spent there.
After the meeting I invited the people I had met to ride with me on RGT. I was riding Mondays and Wednesdays and wanted them to try the voice features and see how the platform was changing.
The same week, I was also asking North Brooklyn Runners whether anyone wanted spiked hot chocolate after the Wednesday night run in Williamsburg. Skinny Dennis used to have Big Buck Hunter. I was not sure it still did.
Bring a wallet and a dry shirt.
