Potentially bringing a bike ;)

That was one of the questions I sent before going to Atlanta for another round of interviews with Wahoo.

I had already threaded a California work week into two days of Wahoo interviews in March. This visit felt different. I was going to spend more time with the people actually building the company, have dinner together, and get deeper into what the job might be.

They asked me to prepare a few slides and questions. I was working with limited data, and I said so right in the pre-read. Most of it was questions about the company, product, team, and role. I did not have the numbers to manufacture a grand answer from the outside.

I also packed training gear.

The trip included a dinner, a lot of conversations, and a jog in the rain. I left Atlanta genuinely excited. In my thank-you note I wrote that zero to one and beyond never is easy. That was part of the attraction. I was not looking for a maintenance job.

Meanwhile, the rest of life was moving just as quickly.

The house search had already produced one fallen-through deal. Now we had signed the purchase agreement on a house in Cornwall. I gave notice on the place in Cold Spring with what I called “great and sad news.” I was happy about the house and sad to leave early. Then the inspection raised a radon question, so I started pushing to get a mitigation plan into the final agreement.

The thank-you notes from Atlanta went out Thursday. That same day I confirmed the house wire had gone out and told the landlord we were leaving. Apparently I had decided one major transition at a time was inefficient.

Buying a house seems to be mostly sending important documents while wondering if you are forgetting a more important document.

Apply did not pause for any of this. Daily reports still arrived. Products and production files were still moving. People still needed answers. I was trying to understand a possible next job while continuing to do the current one, and trying to buy a house while technically still living in another one.

The calendar was exactly what it sounds like: Wahoo, Apply, bank, landlord, inspector. I was still living in one house while trying to buy the next one.

New company maybe. New house almost.

Bike question still open.
