The day moved in stages. First Shutterstock said it was ready to discuss an offer. I accepted verbally. The written letter arrived, and I replied in writing: “I am pleased to accept the offer employment as detailed below.”
This is the role I asked to be considered for a month ago after applying through the company site.
The path was not straight. I interviewed earlier in the year and turned down a technical project-management role because I wanted more responsibility. I then spent seven months as the CTO of a managed-services company.
When the systems role opened, I asked for another interview. Shutterstock reopened the conversation and sent the offer today.
The company replied that it was excited for me to join and would begin the background-check process. Later, the president sent a short personal note saying he had heard the news and was looking forward to working together.
I was very excited. I said exactly that in the acceptance note.
I forwarded the president's note to my family from my phone. I wrote that I wanted to frame it because “this guy is a total a@* kicker :)”. That is closer to my actual mood than a polished announcement.
The written offer is contingent on the normal employment checks. I still need to establish an official start date and notify Shutterstock as soon as I have it.
But the acceptance itself is done.
