Can Work Count as Credits?

I am a re-entry student again.

Baker College considers me one because I have been gone for at least a quarter. I wrote back today with the information needed to change my program to a bachelor's degree in information systems, focused on project management and planning.

The reason is simple. Since I first enrolled, most of my career has moved into director and executive work. Information systems is a much better fit for what I am doing now and what I expect to keep doing.

I also asked a more useful question.

Can any of the work count as credits?

I have additional technical proficiencies plus experience at the IT director and CTO level. If Baker has any way to apply that toward the degree, fantastic.

I attached my resume and sent my LinkedIn profile. That gives the registrar something more concrete than me writing, “I have been very busy since school.”

The private form included all the normal student information, which is not interesting enough to repeat here. The program change is the part that matters.

My original college path and my actual career stopped matching a long time ago. The work kept moving. The degree did not.

Now I am trying to bring them back together without starting the entire thing from zero.

The registrar will review the transfer credits and the requested program change. I do not know what will transfer. I do not know whether the work experience will count.

It would be fantastic if it did.
