I have a Beatport network diagram that could help explain my work. I am not attaching it without asking first.
A New York recruiter sent a long list of requirements for a systems and network role. Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking. BGP and OSPF. Firewalls, VPNs, Linux, DNS, mail, monitoring, data-center wiring, Windows integration, and enough troubleshooting to deal with all of it when the clean diagram stopped matching reality.
I answered every item.
In my response I wrote that the environment has more than 300 active nodes. I described the work as about 15 percent troubleshooting and 85 percent growth and expansion. I also claimed that Beatport had grown nearly twenty times over three years. Those are the figures I used in the application today.
The written answers are detailed, but a diagram would show the scope faster.
I have a version prepared for outside conversations with security information and hardware details removed. Even a scrubbed diagram still comes from my employer's environment, so I did not send it with the first response.
Instead, I asked the recruiter whether the diagram would help and whether the company would be comfortable receiving it. Until I get an answer, the file stays where it is.
The application already includes my written account of the scale, the split between troubleshooting and expansion, and the areas I manage. The diagram is only an additional work sample, and only if the recruiter wants the scrubbed version.
For now, I sent the answers, not the map.
