I am not trying to leave Beatport. I am trying to add another job around it.
A Craigslist post is looking for a Linux administrator who knows hosting. I wrote back today and proposed doing the work remotely after normal hours and on weekends. I can also be available around the clock for emergencies.
My current title is Director of IT. I made that clear at the start because I do not want this to look like a quiet exit from Beatport. I am specifically looking for additional telecommuting work that can fit around the job I already have.
The environment in the post is familiar. Linux, LAMP, hosting control panels, MySQL, mail, DNS, networking, monitoring, authentication, caching, and disaster recovery are all in the work I have been doing. I have managed individual servers and larger production systems. I can troubleshoot the stack without needing somebody to translate it first.
I also explained the schedule plainly. Most of the work would need to happen early, late, or on weekends. Emergencies are different. If something breaks, they can call at any hour and I can get online.
I did not attach a resume to the first response. I said I could put one together if they wanted to continue. The note already had enough detail to show the kind of systems I know and the arrangement I am offering.
The proposal is simple: keep my current director role, take responsibility for another Linux environment from home, and do the regular work outside the normal day.
