The email contained almost nothing except my signature.
It started with my title, Director of Information Technology. Then came DIGITAL DOWNLOAD NETWORK in all caps. Below that was a row of names: Beatport, Beatsource, Traktor, BeatportSync, and Beatportal.
Then came the Broadway office address, two phone numbers, an extension, and a trademarked line about accessing the world of club music.
The message itself was basically blank.
I forwarded it from my Beatport account to my personal Gmail with the subject "yeha." An MP3 ringtone was attached. The signature appeared twice because it was already in the original message and then got added again in the forward.
The only real action was moving one audio file from one address to another. Everything else was the automatic footer.
I had joined Beatport as a senior systems administrator in 2006 and moved into the director role in 2007. The new title fit on one line. The list under it kept going.
Beatport was one name in the row. Beatsource, Traktor, BeatportSync, and Beatportal followed it. Digital Download Network sat above all five. The signature did not explain how the products related to each other. It simply printed the whole list after every message.
My work included servers, storage, budgets, people, vendors, and incidents. None of that appears in this email. There is no request, decision, status report, or technical detail in the body.
There is one misspelled subject, one ringtone, one title, five product names, two phone numbers, and two copies of the same long signature.
The signature was longer than the email.
